The things we do for our country… |
The throughput time of automated regression test runs is usually a bottle-neck in projects where the organization aims at continuous integration and or continuous delivery. Regression tests can take up so much time to run completely, that it blocks continuous delivery and continuous integration. At Stichting ICTU we have found a way to bring back the throughput time of automated regression testing drastically (6 hours to 0,5 hour) without having to do concessions on the contents of the automated regression tests. Another problem is that, due to high costs, projects will often decide not to create all test environments that are actually needed. As part of the same test automation solution we are now able to define as many test environments as we need, without having too much extra costs by using virtualized test environments created at run-time of the automated regression tests. The vision Stichting ICTU developed and implemented on automated regression testing brings the organization closer to DevOps. |
Jan Peter Janssen has a long track record within the organization of Stichting ICTU. He started as a programmer but works as a project manager nowadays. Jan Peter was project manager for the RNI (Registratie Niet Ingezetenen) project, where Stichting ICTU was the supplier of the software that was built. During the RNI project the test automation team spend a lot of attention on how to approach regression testing in a smarter way, supporting the agile/scrum point of view that was adopted by the development team. |
